I love European robins, they're so much cuter than American ones!

And for comparison, here's an American robin...

The first English settlers called these birds Robins
because of their similar rusty red breasts,
they're actually a member of the Thrush family!

ok while I'm on the topic of birds I have to give a shout out
to the bluebird, even though it's been an unusually cold
winter here, with more than normal snow fall, there are
still flocks of pairs of bluebirds! I've seen them outside
my house and on walks, their cerulean colored backs are
like arcs of electricity against the grey-brown background
of the Vineyard winter.

  1. Gosh...I'm so interested...are Robins really different in the states?? Howso?

I've got to agree with you - was watching three (very unusual given they are little solo artists these robins) Robins hop about the birdtable this morning. A very good smile factor :)

  2. My sister's name is Robin because our father was born in Nottingham. I always get her little english robin cards when I am travelling over ther.

  5. Oho - good comparison photo, thank you! I'm now enlightened...

...and I hate to say it, I was remaining openminded...but you're right, the little Brits rule this time! Aren't the little mites dinky?

    Thanks for posting...

  7. Just quick pop-in to say bonjour, darling Jamie. You've had a brilliant week! Will be back next week or sooner. Must run after Julie (aka GG)as I just heard a crash in kitchen & she's running into the bedroom. Good thing she's cute. ciao-meow! Susan
